Gang Dong-won was one of four actors to hold Actors’ House events at the 2022 Busan International Film Festival. (The others were Han Ji-min, Ha Jung-woo and Lee Young-ae.) Each of these sessions consists of a 50-minute long Q&A session during which the actor talks about his or her work. Gang was in Busan to promote the film “Broker,” and also appeared as a guest in a post-screening session the day before on Oct. 8. Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, Gang co-starred in the film with Song Kang-ho (who won the Best Actor Award earlier in the year in Cannes), Lee Ji-eun (better known by her stage name as a singer, IU), Bae Doona and Lee Joo-young. The story focuses on an unwed mother, played by IU, who leaves her newborn infant in what is known as a “baby box.” Such boxes first appeared in Korea in 2009, when a pastor decided to set one up at his church as an alternative to abandoning babies through other means. In “Broker,” Gang plays a volunteer alongside Song at a church accepting such infants, and his character also happens to be an orphan.
