Creative Director Johnny Coca may have been creating “building blocks for a modern British wardrobe,” but truthfully, there’s something for every woman in the Mulberry Fall/Winter 2019 collection. In fact, some pieces were downright spring-like with delicate flower motifs adorning sunflower yellow and baby blue pieces, bright chunky purple heels, and colorful oversized baubles. There’s even a smattering of sportswear in the mix: stylish trainers, backpacks and related accessories.
More muted tones harken back to traditional British fashion, notably tailored menswear. “Since joining Mulberry, I’ve sought inspiration from diverse facets of British history and culture; always with the intent to make people rethink what has come before,” said Coca, who has been with the label since 2015. Despite the veneer, there are touches of playfulness throughout – dialing down what otherwise could be a very heavy set of austere plaid prints, for example. Coca notably used three shades to great effect – navy, oxblood and oak – drawing inspiration from country estates.
