Nicholas K Fall 2016 – New York Fashion Week

With their trademark rock and roll layering, Nicholas K designers Nicholas and Christopher Kunz sent out layered outfits in slinky fabrics.  The Kunz siblings’ Fall 2016 “Arcosanti” collection featured leather jackets, silk pants and jumpers in black, grey, olive, brown, mauve and various shades of eggplant. Simple off-the-shoulder dresses in wool or velvet in dark purple and olive green were paired with leather corset belts. Shiny camisoles were accompanied by leather jackets, button down shirts tied around the waist and pants. One outfit included a purple coat that incorporated a strap that wrapped around a model’s body layered over an off-the-shoulder tunic with matching long trousers. Hand-carved wood sticks placed in some of the models’ hair helped contribute to the nomadic theme of the show.

However, some pieces and concepts detracted, such as the black-and-white print on the scarves and tunics, and an oversized cream colored cape. These two elements  threaten to push the otherwise elegant layering and materials into commercial wear. Despite these outliers, the majority of the collection is suitable for an evening party in the desert under the stars.
