The models in the Vivienne Tam Spring 2016 runway show looked relaxed enough to walk straight off the runway, kick their Vans up onto a bench, and conclude New York Fashion Week by nibbling daintily on a hot dog. Signature graphic prints, appliques and embroidery were present throughout Tam’s casual street-themed collection. Plenty of notable pieces had comfortable, loose silhouettes in stripes or windowpane prints. These included the drop waist, seafoam green dress with embroidered goldfish and a mesh ruffled hem; the men’s green and blue deco-wave shirt styled with a half tuck; the boyfriend bomber jacket in techno mesh with the dragon applique on the back; and both mahjong gowns, one of which featured unique individual panels adhered onto a mesh sheath. The strength of these pieces offset one outlier, a peony all-white jumpsuit that looked more suitable for a hospital. Black, white, red, green and pink dominated the palette.
