A lot of work goes into a runway show and it looks completely effortless for them to set it up, right? Wrong. At least two hours in advance, reporters are already milling around backstage getting ready to interview the designer, take video and photos of the makeup and hair, and ogle the preening models and then the clothes.
Models only had one practice run with the show director for Tam’s Vivienne Tam’s Spring 2016 show and she whipped them into shape, emphasizing not to round the corners and for the models to walk “through the music not to the music.”
As for Tam’s collection, the advantage of being backstage is getting a head start to viewing the clothing on the hangers, and thus being able to eye the interesting materials and details you wouldn’t be able to examine from an audience point of view.
