June 23, 2015, Verizon Center, Washington, D.C. – With just 16 seconds to go in the game and leading by three points, the Washington Mystics (5-2) managed to scratch out a win by making five of eight free throws to beat the winless Los Angeles Sparks, 84-80.
Playing without their usual three stars, Candace Parker, Kristi Toliver and Alana Beard, the Sparks (0-5) nevertheless stayed close throughout the game and nearly stole one from the Mystics.
Mystics starters Emma Meesseman and Tierra Ruffin-Pratt were major contributors in the win, each scoring 20 points, and making a combined 16 of 24 of their field goal attempts.
For the Sparks, center Jantel Lavender led the team with 18 points and nine rebounds, and guard Temeka Johnson had a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists.
