June 6, 2014, Verizon Center, Washington, D.C. – The Washington Mystics squandered a 16-point lead, losing to the Indiana Fever, 64-61. This was one of those games where statistics are appropriate to explain the outcome:
Field goals made / attempts: Fever 21/60 (35%), Mystics 18/61 (29%)
Three-points shot percentage: Fever 35%, Mystics 13%
Turnovers: Fever 11, Mystics 17
Washington lost the game in the third quarter where, in a familiar pattern with previous games, the Mystics were outscored, 24 to 9. Instead of taking outside jump shots as they did in the first half, the Fever was successful attacking the basket in the paint.
