In the middle of a very busy New York Fashion Week for Prabal Gurung, which included the launch of his Target collaboration and his off-site ready-to-wear runway show, was his Fall 2013 offering as creative director for International Concept Brand (ICB). Unveiling at the time slot of 9 a.m. on a Monday morning was unfortunate, but those who had a chance to see his latest collection with ICB – owned by Japanese manufacturer Onward Kashiyama – were treated to clothing that would appeal to all sorts of women.
From slouchy, chunky sweater dresses to cropped pants with colorful pattern block prints to even the black lamb leather zipper belts that accompanied seemingly every look, Gurung smartly created a variety of pieces suitable for all sorts of palette preferences and body types. A couple of standout looks included back-to-back pieces with flounce sleeves, incorporated into a dress and blouse respectively. Cutouts between the shoulder and neck, and slightly flared cap sleeves gave these pieces volume – a stylish twist for those with slightly built frames. Also notable were the series of stylish black and gray melton wool dress coats, several accented with fur.
