Anime North, one of the largest conventions in Canada, takes place annually in Toronto across a half-dozen venues: the Doubletree International Plaza Hotel, the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel, the Toronto Congress Center, the Marriott Toronto Airport Hotel, the Radisson Suites Hotel and the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The 2013 edition occurred from May 24 to 26, with a variety of programs consisting of an opening ceremony, a masquerade, a charity auction, a manga library, a pop idol dance showcase, a J-Rave dance party, in addition to the usual discussion panels, workshops, and video screenings.
However, the biggest draw remains the Dealer’s Room in the Toronto Congress Center with more than 270 tables selling various merchandise. It is in this space where it is easiest to spot attendees of all ages having fun dressed in costumes – in some cases, as their comic characters.
