Mathieu Mirano Fall 2013: Time to step it up

Mathieu Mirano, now in his third season at New York Fashion Week, faces the challenge of taking his growing brand to the next level. As videos of the young designer’s rainbow-inspired Spring 2013 collection play in local taxicabs, his muted tones (mostly nude and black, with ankle boots and heels of his own design to match) for fall suggest a more sophisticated approach to his evening gowns, cropped jackets and coats.

Questions, however, remain, particularly when it comes to movement and fit.  Are these red carpet worthy looks, such as a full-length form-fitting nude tulle dress strategically covered with black neoprene square panels, merely content on a stationary mannequin? Or can they hold their own throughout an evening of awards ceremony after-party hopping?  Perhaps it is time for Mirano to put his designs to the test by hitting the runway next season.
