Timo Weiland’s Spring 2013 collection had plenty of street swagger to go around for both men and women in its 42 Keith Haring-inspired looks. Each one conveyed a lively and youthful attitude, a sentiment amplified by the hip hop music accompanying the show.
The sporty menswear line included knit bomber jackets, baseball shirts and hoodies paired with sweatpants, loose trousers and color-blocked shorts. While little variety was on display across the mostly monochrome and similarly-cut tops and bottoms, everything appeared comfortable and wearable. Rapper – and Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Club fashion designer – Pharrell Williams would look good in several of these pieces.
However, this lack of variety was not the case for the women’s wear. Instead of playing a pickup game of streetball with the boys, Weiland’s girls would be clustered on a stoop, preferring to look cute in fun, printed dresses and oversized geometric hoop earrings. Her work and party wear would have a similar playfulness. A blown-up yellow houndstooth print was creatively used on a sheath dress and a trenchcoat with solid khaki sleeves, while a zigzag print containing shades of red and coral covered a collared zipper front halter dress. Confusingly, however, two floor-length satin evening gowns closed the show. Perhaps you never know when you have a charity gala to go to?
