One need not refer to the program to decipher the inspiration for Blanc de Chine’s Spring 2013 collection. For its 20th anniversary, the Hong Kong label combined traditional Chinese men’s and women’s pieces with modern workmanship. The collection, titled “Fashion Fusion,” featured many twists – obvious yet subtle, unique yet not distracting.
For example, a floor-length, black sequined qi pao gathered at the bottom, resulting in a bubble dress of sorts. Another striking qi pao, a blue sequined draped number, had sheer sleeves extending out of an otherwise sleeveless cut accompanied by a mandarin collar. Sequins continued to peer through chiffon layers in other eveningwear as well as one-shouldered tops. The men’s collection offered simpler looks for spring compared to last season, including casual well-tailored scholar’s robes and jackets.
