Sparkly crystals, glittery sequins and ruffles galore – no, this was not an episode of “Toddlers and Tiaras.”
In typical fashion, Venexiana designer Kati Stern sent a lengthy 71 looks down her New York runway, emphasizing her rock ‘n’ roll princess aesthetic with intense, sultry eye makeup and loud rock music. It was elegant irreverence to the nth degree, as displayed in the flirty lace on glamorous gowns that a girl can feel herself sashay in.
There is no denying that each piece had been meticulously constructed with rich fabrics, and that much care was put into the intricate beadwork. One light blue sari-inspired gown had delicate gold detailing scattered across the skirt’s sheer overlay, giving a refreshingly light feeling to a collection demonstrating an otherwise heavy-handed usage of crystal embellishments. Another standout piece was a strapless sea green mermaid gown with a stunning all-over starburst art deco pattern done in beads.
