A depleted field due to the London Olympics meant that the 2012 Citi Open was up for grabs. In the end, it was unseeded Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia who took home the honors, defeating top seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 6-1, 6-1, for the championship. Earlier in the week, Rybarikova also upended second seed Chanelle Scheepers and American teenager Sloane Stephens.
The WTA Tour event marked the first time that Washington, D.C., has simultaneously held a men’s and women’s tournament during the same week.
