After establishing a distinguished career in her home country, South Korean designer Son Jung Wan set her sights on New York last year. Her sophomore effort for Spring 2012 represented a marked improvement from her debut, offering plenty of metallic silver and copper – shades that could be reserved for tough industrial wear – fused with light airy fabrics. In fact, perhaps, too light and airy to the point of dragging down the quality of the clothing; materials such as linen, silk and satin didn’t seem to be able to support some of the structured details that Son tried to incorporate into her blazers and tops, both for men and women.
