One who needed a quick case study in geometry need not look further than Narciso Rodriguez’s simultaneously subtle yet eye-popping Spring 2012 women’s collection. Shapes and cut-out designs prevailed throughout the Cuban-American designer’s work, and his frequent use of linen and silk prevented numerous jagged edges from appearing too sharp. Of particular note were his silk marocain bras; layered underneath translucent silk shirts or dresses, they appeared to be minimalist reinventions of the traditional racerback tank top from the back.
