Zverev handles Anderson in straight sets, wins 2017 Citi Open

Aug. 6, 2017, Washington, D.C. – The outcome was never in doubt, as Alexander Zverev efficiently and methodically dissected South African Kevin Anderson to win his first ATP World Tour 500 title.

The numbers speak to Zverev’s efficiency and methodicalness:

  • Winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in just 1 hour and 10 minutes.
  • Breaks early in each set: the third game in set No. 1 and first game in set No. 2.
  • Winning 88 percent (30/34) of first serves.
  • Winning 67 percent (10/15) of second serves.
  • Losing just nine points on serve.
  • Winning 33 percent (2/6) on break points.
  • Faced zero break points.

The Citi Open was Zverev’s fifth ATP title.  The very next week, he won his sixth event at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, defeating Roger Federer in the finals.  Earlier this year, he upset Novak Djokovic at the 2017 Italian Open to win his first Masters 1000 title.
