Label: J Apostrophe (제이 어퍼스트로피) (often abbreviated in the runway backdrop to “j'”)
Designers: Sisters Lee Ji-yeon and Lee Ji-sun (이지연, 이지선)
Spring/Summer 2017 collection title: “Romantic Naturalism”
Our take: Full of Pierrot collars, tiers and ruffles, the J Apostrophe Spring 2017 women’s collection truly lived up to its name. It’s an offering that is distinguished enough to differentiate itself from other women’s ready-to-wear labels in the domestic market, yet commercial enough to appeal to women of all shapes and sizes, a rarity in Asia where a “free size” cut is targeted towards US size 0. Although the frills could have easily dominated the clothing, the Lee sisters manage to brake just short of overwhelming the wearer, with fabric movement playing a critical role.
