Many a time, a soldier aims to be stealth. Many a time, camouflage certainly assists with achieving that goal. But neither reference played a subtle role in the YCH Spring 2017 “Soldiers” collection – unless designer Yoon Choon-ho’s definition of playing hide-and-seek means burying one’s figure in oversized clothing.
In a hesitant attempt to bid farewell to autumn, YCH mixed basics with some rather curious choices. Basic pieces fared better than the loud camouflage prints, but a strapless trench coat, for example, won’t do the wearer much good at any time of the year. The repetitious use of mesh layers for both men and women? Extra filler, at best.
If the billowing blouses, skirts and dresses could have been kept at bay, perhaps this would have been more focused and visually appealing collection. As it stands now, a soldier may want to stick to his or her conventional attire, lest risk getting tripped up in a giant pile of material while plotting a runway escape.
