Aug. 2, 2015, Kastles Stadium at the George Washington University Charles E. Smith Center, Washington, D.C. – Once again, the Washington Kastles flexed their championship muscles, overwhelming their Western counterpart, the Austin Aces, 24-18, to win another Mylan World TeamTennis title. The Kastles won their first four matches in Mixed Doubles (5-2), Women’s Doubles (5-4), Men’s Doubles (5-3), and Men’s Singles (5-4), leading by a score of 20-13 going to the final match.
For the final Women’s Singles match, Coach Murphy Jensen placed his faith in Madison Brengle, who served as a substitute for the Kastles in 2015. While Madison played a very competitive match against the Aces’ Elina Svitolina, the match went to Extended Play (EP) when Elina by a score of 5-3. In the first EP game, Madison brought the house down by breaking Elina’s serve, resulting in the Kastles’ record fifth straight Championship.
Fittingly, Leander Paes was the MVP in the Finals. In his seventh season with Washington, he is the only member of the Kastles who has played in their five consecutive Championship runs.
