Duro Olowu’s signature bright colors and bold prints, usually found in the chicest of boutiques around the globe, have now received mass retail treatment in a collaboration with JCPenney launching March 1.
The collection’s release is perfectly timed for the warmer months ahead. Just when you think you won’t be able to stomach seeing another army green parka with contrasting black leather sleeves, the London-based designer’s fresh and flirty dresses will save your fatigued eyes.
There is a grass-green printed option with fitted bodice and full skirt (which would look great with a white blazer or cardigan for work), as well as a fun purple-brown-teal plaid dress that practically comes with instructions to wear it in Central Park for a summer picnic. Should all these patterns wear you out, there are always the metallic gold and silver brocade pieces to incorporate as neutrals.
In addition to the expected articles of clothing, Olowu offers jewelry, handbags, housewares and even a piece of luggage (perhaps for storing everything that you end up buying from this line?). All the pieces were rendered in vibrant spring color, showcasing a diverse range of patterns from African-inspired to floral and paisley. Accessories, including a tote bag and cross-body bags that look perfectly shaped for an iPad, shared the same prints as the clothing. Meanwhile, jewelry was focused on the wrist – chunky cream, red and black bangles were in abundance – with the exception of one standout pearl necklace with an oversized rhinestoned ram’s head and three gold tassels.
