Thankfully for the fashion world, Asian American designer Brandon Sun found his calling after dabbling in the fields of business and graphic design. After attending Parsons The New School for Design, Sun learned the ins and outs of fur with J. Mendel. This set the foundation for his ongoing work with Blackglama (and the label’s star model, Janet Jackson), which in turn contributed to his namesake label that has shown at New York Fashion Week for three seasons. The 30-year-old Sun’s latest was a moody, sophisticated Fall/Winter 2013 collection titled “Gutai” after the 1950’s Japanese experimental art movement. Alex Vervoodt’s interior photography also inspired the heavily-layered, 20-look collection.
