Those accustomed to Carlos Miele using pastel colors, whites and bright tones in his spring collections will be surprised by his latest. The Brazilian designer, who tends to draw from his home country for inspiration each season, turned to an unusual color palette, mostly in the form of black scattered throughout leopard and giraffe prints. Although these motifs are not typically a preference of this reviewer, they were incorporated beautifully into caftans and long silk chiffon dresses. Other standout pieces in his refreshing Spring 2013 collection included sequined black mini dresses and green high-waisted pleated silk charmeuse pants resembling tall blades of grass.
