Inspiration: Held at the label’s New York flagship location, the title of Blanc de Chine’s Fall 2012 collection, “Back to Classics,” refers to two time periods: the influence of 5,000 years of Chinese culture and the founding of the label’s first shop nearly 20 years ago. As a result, classic met modern in a variety of men’s and women’s traditional pieces, including the Qi Pao (also referred to as the cheongsam); the Zhong Shan suit (named after Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the father of the Republic of China – although, interestingly, also known as the Mao suit); and the Mien O (a short, thick quilted jacket often worn in colder weather).
