On Apr. 11, luxury fashion house Galia Lahav Haute Couture held its Spring 2015 presentation at The Glass Houses overlooking the Hudson River in New York. The presentation introduced the Moon Struck Evening Collection, and showcased the more recognized La Dolce Vita Bridal Collection. Overall, while the presentation displayed two collections with great craftsmanship, it ultimately failed to result in a cohesive, powerful group of designs.
The evening collection attempted to mimic the moon’s reflection amongst the stars. Using layers of lace and silk, the translucent materials intended to emphasize the female figure. While the tailoring was undeniably remarkable, the Moon Struck collection instead felt darker than what its inspiration was supposed to convey. Despite the light silk materials, the evening gowns felt rather heavy, dragged down by the lace and buttons that clung onto the model’s body.
The La Dolce Vita Bridal Collection was a romantic and elegant – but inconsistent – fusion of beadwork and vintage sun-kissed lace. Dress styles ranged from mermaid to straight, using buttons, beads, and lace, even glass. Yet even with this wide variety of styles and materials, the collection did not present anything new.
